Liverpool Legends 2, Chelsea Legends 0 - Peter Crouch Scores Twice For the Reds

A fun afternoon ended with a Liverpool victory at the annual charity match against Chelsea Legends.
An entertaining afternoon ended with the Liverpool Legends beating the Chelsea Legends 2-0 during the LFC Charity Match. The big action all happened within 10 minutes in the second half.
Peter Crouch got a chance to bust out his famous robot goal celebration when he scored twice, first in the 55th minute and then again very shortly after.
Sir Kenny Dalglish’s first half team included: Dudek (Westerveld, 18), Biscan, Hyypia, Klavan, Kelly, Spearing, Sissoko (Dowie, 33), Babel, Vignal, Gerrard, Kuyt.
Two former captains, a Champions League winning goalkeeper, and Dutch king Dirk Kuyt beefed up the ranks for the Reds. Most excitingly, Natasha Dowie made history in the 33rd minute by being the first female legend to play in one of these games. In 2025.
Dowie retired from football in 2023 and is now the women’s ambassador for Liverpool. She played for the club from 2012-2015, at the height of their success in the WSL.
The closest the Reds came to scoring in the first half was off of Sami Hyypia’s header, which went wide of the mark.
The second half was a much changed cast of characters: Westerveld (James, 63), Kelly, Klavan, Aurelio, Gerrard, Benayoun, Gonzalez, Riera (Spearing, 66), Sinama-Pongolle, Cisse (Kuyt, 82), Crouch.
Djibril Cisse has the first shot fired when they came back from the break, putting in a wild header on a cross from Albert Riera. Moments later, Crouch did the business with his own header, beating the Chelsea goalkeeper.
Sander Westerveld was called on to make a save on his end as Chelsea looked to quickly equalize. Then five minutes later, Crouch put it away with his foot this time to sew up the victory for the home team.
This match is an annual tradition and always fills Anfield with happy Reds eager to engage in some nostalgia. King Kenny is almost always the manager, and Steven Gerrard has enjoyed returning home since he first left the club. The other players are always a surprise, with some big names returning to show their love for their club and help raise money for the LFC Charity Foundation.
