Rumour Mongering: Liverpool See João Pedro as Potential £40M Striker Solution

If Newcastle won’t sell Alexander Isak at a price the Reds are willing to pay, Brighton’s João Pedro could be Plan B for a side seeking a striker.
For a Liverpool side widely believed to be in need of a significant striker signing in the summer, the headlining name remains Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but the Swedish star could prove impossible to pry away from his current club.
Moving past Isak, then, one of the most frequently linked names in recent months has been Brighton’s João Pedro, a player whose game bears more of a resemblance to ex-Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino than current Liverpool striker Darwin Nuñez.
There has been a steady trickle of stories linking Pedro with the Reds since the calendar ticked over to 2025, and the latest is CuaghtOffside claiming exclusive sources have told them he might be available this summer for around £40M.
Pedro started his career at Fluminense in Brazil as a defensive midfielder at the academy level before moving up the pitch to attacking midfield and eventually breaking into the first team as a striker before earning a move to Watford in 2020.
The 23-year-old then moved to Brighton in 2023, and has 28 goals and 10 assists in 65 appearances so far for the south coast club. This season, he has recorded a goal involvement every 123 minutes—a slight improvement on Nuñez’ 134.
While statistically there’s not a massive difference between Pedro and Nuñez, if Isak can’t be signed from Newcastle for a fee the club can stomach, Pedro does stylistically appear a fit for Liverpool and what Arne Slot seems to want from a striker.
