Despite a brief spike in speculation connecting Klopp with the soon to be open job at Real Madrid, the Liverpool and Dortmund legend isn’t currently considering a return.

When rumours began to swirl in the Spanish press about the future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, with most expecting the manager to leave at the end of the season despite the manager insisting that no decision regarding his future has yet been made, the consensus was that Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso would be his successor.

However, over the past week a surprising alternative has popped up: former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp. The legendary Reds, Dortmund, and Mainz trainer is currently head of global soccer for Red Bull group and in the past has hinted at a reluctance to manage in a league where he doesn’t speak the language, but that didn’t stop the speculation.

Now, The Telegraph are reporting Madrid isn’t an option for Klopp, at the very least least not for this summer. Instead, they say the 57-year-old German fully intends to stick around in his Red Bull gig at least through 2025 before deciding on if he feels properly re-energized and wishes to return to management full time in 2026.

On the Madrid front, it’s said Klopp is the top target for Anas Laghari, who is seeking to replace Florentino Perez as president of the Spanish giants, though if Madrid need a new manager this summer it’s unlikely to matter no matter how the power dynamics play out in the Spanish capital. And even in 2026, language would be a stumbling block.

As has been the case previously, if Klopp does return to management next year, it seems rather more likely it would be to take a job at the international level. In particular, the report floats England, Germany, and the United States as the potential landing spots should one of those jobs come open early next year heading into the 2026 World Cup.
