Liverpool’s Smith Nominated for WSL Player of the Season

Forward Olivia Smith has also been nominated for the Women Super League’s top young star following her first season with the Reds.
The 2024-25 season hasn’t gone as most would have hoped for Liverpool FC’s women’s team, leading to a parting of ways with the manager, but there have been bright spots for the Reds. Top amongst those has been the play of forward Olivia Smith.
The 20-year-old Canadian international signed from Portugal’s Sporting last summer and quickly established herself as the key to Liverpool’s attack, and a season of strong reviews has been given validation this week with news Smith is a finalist for WSL Player of the Season honours.
Smith, who has seven goals from 19 games in the league this season, is also a finalist for the WSL Rising Star award as the Women’s Super League’s top young player.
With Liverpool currently sixth, Smith is a long-shot to win either prize—league top scorer Alessia Russo of second-place Arsenal is a strong contender for Player of the Year while champions Chelsea have Aggie Beever-Jones up for both awards—but being recognised as amongst the best in the WSL is still significant.
The award will be decided by a combination of votes from league board members, the Football Writers’ Association, and fan voting via the Football Supporters’ Association which can be found here.
