Huddersfield vs Liverpool: Match Preview

Liverpool travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday night looking to bounce back from two straight defeats.

Liverpool have lost to the bottom two in the Premier League in our last two games and after being dumped out of the FA Cup in the fourth round for the third successive season on Saturday, the Reds will now see this game as a must win.

You wouldn’t believe it now but 8 days ago we beat league leaders Manchester City, who were unbeaten in the league this season.

The atmosphere on social media surrounding the club at the moment is poor and very negative, a win on Tuesday would give LFC a massive boost ahead of Sunday’s test against Tottenham at Anfield, who are currently in 5th place, 2 point’s behind the Kopites.

The Reds beat David Wagner’s side 3-0 earlier on in the season, the first game of our 18 match unbeaten run, which came to an end in the defeat in Swansea last Monday.

The Terriers come into this game currently 14th in the league and were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham City in the FA Cup on Saturday as Lukas Jutkiewicz’s goal ruled out Steve Mounie’s opener. The hosts have lost their last 3 Premier League games and haven’t won in the league since the 9th December.

When Wagner’s Huddersfield came to Anfield in October, Klopps Liverpool side claimed all three points with a 3-0 victory with second half goals from Sturridge, Firmino and Wijnaldum being the difference.

Adam Lallana is a doubt after missing the defeat to West Brom with a ‘slight muscle tear.’ Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson made a difference coming off the bench against West Brom and has a chance of starting. Loris Karius is likely to come back in after being rotated out of the XI against West Brom.

This is the first time the Reds have ever played at the John Smith’s stadium and Huddersfield have only lost once there this season to a non-London side (a 2-1 defeat to Man City).

A loss in this match will see the Terriers lose back-to-back home league games for the first time in the Premier League. A defeat for Liverpool will see the first time we have lost back-to-back games in the league under Jurgen Klopp.

Kevin Friend is the referee on Tuesday night. The 46 year old, Bristol-born referee also refereed Liverpool’s 3-0 win over the Terriers back in October.

This is the 77th game between the two sides in their history. Huddersfield have won more games against Liverpool previously (31), than the Reds have managed against the Terriers (28).

There is no doubt that Matchday 25 of the Premier League season will be an intriguing encounter between two sides desperate for a win.
