Huddersfield vs Liverpool – View from the John Smith’s Stadium – Opposition Preview

Liverpool will take on Huddersfield Town on Tuesday in their latest Premier League fixture, knowing it’s vital they get back to winning ways as soon as possible.

Defeats to Swansea City and West Brom in the last week dealt a significant blow to the Reds. The previous encounter between Liverpool and Huddersfield saw Liverpool come out as 3-0 winners.

To get an opposing preview of this fixture, we spoke to those behind Huddersfield Town blog Vital Huddersfield Town.

After a fairly positive start to the season, Huddersfield’s form seems to have dropped a bit more recently. How confident are you going into this fixture?

Confidence has sapped a little from the team and the stands but I think we all need to remember just where we have come from!

Games like Tuesday were and are never going to be the games that keep us in the division, it’s a free hit if you will, the optimist would look and see Liverpool aren’t in great form in the last two games and the pessimist would expect us to get the backlash and lose heavily.

I’m relaxed about it, a point would be great, 3 amazing but fully expect Liverpool’s quality to tell in the end.

What would you put your recent slump in form down to?

I think teams have worked us out in how we play and have shut us down effectively, West Ham really did a number on us and Stoke essentially copied their match plan.

We do perhaps need to “mix it up” a little but clearly retain our style that has got us to where we are in the table. That and a few key players being slightly out of form, like Aaron Mooy and missing players through injury like Kachunga who had just started really finding his feet in the Premier League.

Do you think this could be a good time to play Liverpool after a difficult week of results for them?

As I alluded to earlier, Liverpool aren’t in good form the last two losing to Swansea and West Brom, that should really give us hope that we could take something from the game, I’m sure those matches were both watched in detail by Wagner and his coaching staff.

The match at Anfield ended up finishing 3-0 to Liverpool, what are your memories of that game?

I think we gave a decent account of ourselves at Anfield, but as always as soon as we went behind we knew the game was done.

What have you made of Liverpool so far this season?

Liverpool have the real ability to entertain when they are on song, but equally can lose games they really shouldn’t, lets hope Tuesdays is another one of those days.

The Huddersfield player you think Liverpool need to be wary of?

Alex Pritchard, made his debut against West Ham late on and looked bright, a bit lost at Stoke and taken off on the hour, I expect him to start again Tuesday and inject that magic we are lacking in the number 10 position.

The Liverpool player that you think could offer the biggest threat?

This is so tough to choose when you have Mané, Firmino and Salah as a front 3, clearly all with immense talent and pace, frightening pace really! just pray they all have an off day like at Swansea!

Your score prediction?

Huddersfield 2-2 Liverpool – I’m going for a bold goal scoring draw, Wagner surely has to have some X-Factor on Klopp at some point and whilst I’d love to win the game I think a draw would be a credible result from our perspective, Fingers, toes and anything crossed that can be!
