Liverpool Loan Watch: Firth joins Chester, Virtue sent off
Seven Reds loanees were in action this week. With the transfer window closing on Wednesday, we expect plenty more youngsters to be joining them over the coming days.
Allan Rodrigues de Souza, Apollon Limassol
Allan dropped out of the Apollon first XI on Wednesday, with the Limassol side traveling to take on APOEL Nicosia in a blockbuster clash at the summit of the Cypriot First Division.
Apollon would cruise to a 4-0 defeat, which sees them climb above APOEL into first place in the table. Allan came off the bench after 72 minutes.
Taiwo Awoniyi, Royal Excel Mouscron
Royal Excel Mouscron’s disappointing recent form continued on Tuesday, as they fell 3-0 in a derby match against Kortrijk. Taiwo Awoniyi played the whole game.
Awoniyi got another start, his 20th league start of the season, on Friday, with Mouscron traveling to bottom side Mechelen. They won 2-0. Awoniyi played 89 minutes.
Pedro Chirivella, Willem II
Pedro Chirivella was given another start on Sunday, lining up in midfield as his Willem II hosted AZ Alkmaar. Willem lost 2-0, with Chirivella playing 90 minutes and earning a booking.

Andy Firth, Chester
U23 goalkeeper Andy Firth became the latest Liverpool youngster to secure a loan spell this window, joining National League relegation battlers Chester until the end of the season.
The deal is Firth’s second loan, after a short spell at non-league Witton Albion during the 2015-16 season.
Firth went straight into the squad on Saturday, spending Chester’s 3-0 defeat at Maidenhead United on the bench.
Marko Grujic, Cardiff City
Marko Grujic and his Cardiff City became the latest team to be victimized by Manchester City this weekend, as the Bluebirds lost 2-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Grujic started, and put in a hard-working performance over 90 minutes. He did not see much of the ball, but mostly defended well, continuing his promising start at Cardiff City Stadium.

Ryan Kent, Bristol City
Bristol City were in League Cup semifinal action on Tuesday, also hosting Manchester City, in the second leg. Ryan Kent came off the bench after 73 minutes, but by that point the tie was all but over. Bristol lost 3-2, and 5-3 on aggregate, to bring an end to an impressive League Cup run.
Kent then made his first start for Bristol, as the Robins returned to winning ways by beating QPR 2-0 in the Championship on Saturday. The winger earned an assist on his side’s opening goal.
Sheyi Ojo, Fulham
Sheyi Ojo remained out this week, with his Fulham securing an important 3-1 win at Barnsley. Former Liverpool target Ryan Sessegnon scored twice, bringing the 17-year-old’s goal tally to 11 this season.
Divock Origi, VfL Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg beat Hannover 96 1-0 away from home on Sunday. Divock Origi was not involved.
Connor Randall, Hearts
Hearts were back in league action on Wednesday, traveling to take on former Liverpool youngster Ryan Fulton’s Hamilton Academical. Connor Randall made another start, his 15th league start of the season, to help Hearts to a 3-0 win. He played 90 minutes.
Randall then dropped to the bench for his side’s Saturday clash with Motherwell. He came on after 84 minutes, before Motherwell scored a 96th minute equalizer, to seal a 1-1 draw.
Matty Virtue, Notts County
Matty Virtue continued in the Notts County first XI on Tuesday, but had a disappointing evening, as he was sent off late on in his side’s disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Crawley Town, after picking up a second yellow card.
Notts County finished the game with nine men, and Crawley scored a 95th minute penalty winner.
The red card meant Virtue missed out on Notts County’s FA Cup meeting with Premier League Swansea at Meadow Lane Stadium on Saturday. It finished 1-1, with Notts earning a replay, to be played on February 6.
Corey Whelan, Yeovil
Yeovil lost 4-0 to Manchester United in the FA Cup on Friday. Corey Whelan was an unused substitute.
