Klopp on Emre Can’s future after Huddersfield win: “If people behave and deliver like Emre then everything is fine!”

Jurgen Klopp was delighted as his side bounced back in superb style to defeat Huddersfield Town and further cement Liverpool’s top four position.

After a week where successive defeats at the hands of Swansea and West Brom threatened to derail the Reds’ potentially promising season, a sumptuous strike from Emre Can followed up by goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah meant that it was Liverpool who left the John Smith’s Stadium with all three crucial points.

Talking to the media after the game, Klopp expressed his satisfaction at his team’s performance and explained how they were able to rectify the costly errors made in the last two fixtures.

We had to keep the ball, score in the right moments which we did and it was pretty clear in our moments.

“I’m not sure if there was a lot of chances in the first half, of course the set piece, and the cross from the left and the finish which Loris had to do a save but overall of course absolutely deserved and it was the only thing we wanted today.”

When probed about the nature of the hosts playing deep, Klopp replied, “It’s always like this, you need an opener and so be it. It stays like this, teams not only Huddersfield other teams as well when they are 1-0 down they don’t change their approach.”

The German was also impressed with the way in which his side closed out the game from a defensive standpoint, “it’s still OK because they all know with one set piece they are back in the game or whatever so you know how it is in football so didn’t change the job only the result which is good. 2-0 was good, 3-0 we closed the game so it was like it should be”, he explained.

“I don’t think we gave them a lot of opportunities to do so, our counter-pressing was quite impressive so it meant they wanted to go but then we were there and really in the situation and did really well in these situations.

“So there was nothing to get to be honest and no, lack of ambition for sure not but of course a little bit of insecurity you can see it. There’s not exactly the same confidence, that’s human being in general.

“It’s quite important difficult to get it back but they have other opponents and can get points and everything changes in a second I had that a lot in my life to be honest. Playing without confidence was my hobby”, he said.

Emre Can turned in yet another stellar man of the match display and his future, which is still clouded in doubt, was once again a key talking point. However, Klopp insists he is happy to keep playing his fellow countryman if he continues to consistently perform, “That’s not a problem, as long as he plays like this then it doesn’t have an influence in all the other things so that’s the most important thing.”

“He was not too good in the last game so I had a choice which player I want to stay on the pitch but he paid it back which is nice. I said it a few times, sometimes you want to sell a player, sometimes you want to keep a player that’s how it is.

“You can make the biggest stories in the world but if people behave & deliver like Emre then everything is fine & that is normal in life so in the end if we have to do it we shake hands & say goodbye and if he stays, we shake his hand and say hello again but we will see.”
