Henderson and Can reflect on Huddersfield win after Reds ease to victory in Yorkshire

Liverpool were comfortable winners over Huddersfield Town this evening, with goals from Emre Can, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

The midfield trio of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Can were exceptional, passing with intent and moving the ball far quicker than the team managed in either the West Brom or Swansea defeats.

Liverpool captain Henderson returned to the side this evening and was content with the improvement his teammates showed.

He said: “It was important for us after the last two results and performances that we obviously weren’t happy with.

“It was a tough game coming here and we knew that. It was an important one for us and I knew if we [did] the things we’ve been doing for the majority of the season then we’ll come here and put on a good performance and we managed to do that.”

Liverpool scored the second goal through Firmino, just before half time, giving them a crucial two-goal cushion.

Henderson added: “It was an important one right on half time but the biggest key for us tonight was patience.

“We knew that they were going to try and frustrate us so keep the ball, keep it moving quickly, and when we felt it was the right time, go and penetrate the line.

“We did that brilliantly at times. I think in the last 10 or 15 minutes we can keep going and do better, but overall I thought the lads were brilliant from start to finish.

“The clean sheet is big for us as well.”

Can, who was superb on the night and got the vital opener, was also happy with his performance.

The German midfielder said: “I’m happy that I could help the team. I spoke about that before the game.

“If they are deep you have to shoot sometimes and I was lucky. It was a good ball.

“I try to help the team but most importantly we won the game after two defeats. We spoke about a lot of things in the last couple of days and we did it today brilliantly.”

Can was also inevitably asked about his future, which will continue until he announces one way or the other.

He added: “I said one hundred times I’m still contracted here and my agent is doing the other things.”

The only thing he will care about for tonight at least is that Liverpool have ended a run of successive defeats.
