Sunderland Still Want to Take Liverpool’s Woodburn On Loan

Reports have the Black Cats wanting two Liverpool players on deadline day but they may not get that.

Earlier in the month, Sunderland let it be known that they wanted to bring in Liverpool’s young attacking talent Ben Woodburn on loan, a move that would see him reunited with former Wales national team manager Chris Coleman.

Philippe Coutinho’s sale, though, appeared to derail the move, with Liverpool feeling they needed to keep Woodburn around as an emergency option. Now, though, there are reports Sunderland are still trying to get the deal done.

With it looking a near certainty Sunderland will sign Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria on loan before the close of the window, there are whispers Sunderland haven’t given up on Woodburn and are continuing to talk to Liverpool about him.

For now, a loan move for Woodburn still appears unlikely, though. Still, if Liverpool feel he won’t get a chance in the second half of the season, six months playing regularly for Coleman—and with Ejaria—could be a good move for everyone.

With only hours left to go before the transfer window shuts, at least it shouldn’t take long to find out for certain whether Woodburn and Ejaria will both go to Sunderland on loan or if just Ejaria will.
