Lallana Doubtful for Tottenham Clash

The Reds remain cautious with the midfielder’s recovery.

The January transfer window has closed with very little noise from Liverpool. But before anyone can sink further into the doldrums, the nauseating nerves that come with a huge weekend game set in instead. This Sunday, Liverpool will try their hardest not to lose to Tottenham at home and fall from their rather cushy third-place spot.

And it’s looking like Liverpool may be without Adam Lallana for the match. Lallana suffered a recent setback in returning from the long-term thigh injury he suffered last summer. Klopp is counting on Lallana’s full recovery, but he’s not going to push the player as he returns to fitness.

“It’s really unlucky,” the boss said about Lallana’s recent setback. “It was a really serious injury in the summer. Because of Adam’s quality and attitude in training, it looks immediately like we can put him in, [but] physical-wise he’s not fit.

“The two things that happened after his big injury were in the 10 or 15 minutes after he came on. From nil to 100 in a second, and that’s maybe what caused the problem.

“We really tried to be sensible with it, to do the right thing. But it didn’t work, twice. It’s really not a big thing, three games is like not being injured.

“He’s maybe available for Tottenham, and if not then he’ll have missed three games. That’s really OK, but of course it’s not cool. The body needs to adapt again to the intensity.”

Lallana has only featured in seven games this season and has only started in two. His return to full fitness and to the squad is something we’ll all be waiting for, and hopefully that’ll happen in time for Tottenham on Sunday.
