The Liverpool skipper hailed the Anfield atmosphere and his team’s desire in the massive first leg win.

No that isn’t the stat showing that Liverpool’s dominant, emphatic, magical 3-0 win Champions League quarterfinal win over Manchester City, although that was EXCELLENT.

The big fat “0” statistic that was the most shocking on a truly glorious European night at Anfield was the fact that the Premier League champions, a team whose goal difference in the league alone this season is more than all but one team, failed to register a single shot on target.

Not one.

Jordan Henderson chalked up what was arguably the most impressive defensive performance of any team in the Champions League this season to a combination of desire on behalf of the Jürgen Klopp’s side and the earth-shaking atmosphere in Anfield.

“We knew the atmosphere would be brilliant and it was, and we made the most of that. Second half they came at us more, we dropped deep at times.

“Our game is about working together as a team and we did that brilliantly. We all chipped in with the hard yards. It’s only the first leg. I didn’t make many fouls in the game so it’s disappointing to miss out next week.

Injuries are mounting, with Mohamed Salah going off with a knock in the 53rd minute waiting to be evaluated in the coming days in addition to the ailing Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana and Emre Can. Liverpool still have to get a result at the same Etihad stadium that witnessed their 5-0 shellacking at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s men.

But if the Reds can bring even a fraction of the energy they displayed today, you’ll have to like their chances of booking a place in the first Champions League semifinal in nearly 12 years.
