Barca keeper Cillessen ‘available for £25m’

Barcelona would accept an offer of £25million for supposed Liverpool target Jasper Cillesen this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport. 

The Reds are in the market for a new goalkeeper after two decisive errors from Loris Karius in May’s Champions League final, but their two principal targets, Jan Oblak and Alisson, appear to be out of reach.

Cillessen’s name has been repeatedly mentioned in discussions of possible alternatives, and it is understood that Barcelona will allow their number-two ‘stopper to leave on a cut-price deal.

The player is said to have a £55million release clause, but the La Liga champions have accepted no club would consider a deal of that magnitude.

Cillessen joined Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2016 but has struggled for game-time at the Camp Nou and currently plays second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The 29-year-old will reportedly hold talks with the club next week as he looks to prevent a repeat of the 2017/18 season, when he was restricted to just a single start in La Liga.

Overall, he made 11 appearances, registering eight clean sheets.

The Catalans are reluctant to sanction his departure since they believe he serves as an effective mentor to ter Stegen, but they understand his desire for additional playtime.

Sport also claim Barcelona want his future sorted as soon as possible, meaning the door could soon be open for potential suitors.

Historically, Liverpool have been prepared to bide their time if top targets are unavailable, but they could be tempted to swoop for the experienced Cillessen.

Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois may be another potential bargain, with the Mirror suggesting the Blues will sell him for just shy of £45million if they themselves sign Alisson.
