Divock Origi Wants to Fight for His Place at Liverpool

Despite that it appears there’s little room for him at Anfield, the striker is determined to prove his worth during pre-season.

Divock Origi’s time at Anfield appears to be over, with all signs pointing to Jürgen Klopp planning to enter next season with Roberto Firmino his top choice striker backed up by Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster, with Origi and Danny Ings expected to move on.

Origi, though, isn’t ready to accept that—at least according to reports out of Belgium this week that claim the striker is determined to remain at Anfield for at least the entirety of pre-season in order to prove Klopp wrong and earn a place at the club moving forward.

A number of Belgian outlets, including Het Laatste Nieuws, say that while Origi knows he won’t be in line to be first choice at Anfield regardless, he wants to show he’s good enough to play a key role for Liverpool in the coming season and force a chance of plans.

If he does, the result would likely be Solanke being allowed to head out on loan given his stage of development and need to find significant minutes somewhere this season, while Brewster will stay as third choice no matter which striker ends up Firmino’s back-up.

And however all that shakes out, the club are not expected to sign another striker this summer—a fact confirmed today by The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce—though a flexible attacker or midfielder who could fill in at striker in a pinch could still be on the cards.
