Grujic urged to join Lazio by Milinkovic-Savic

Marko Grujic is being pushed to move to leading suitors Lazio by Serbian international team-mate Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Grujic spent the latter part of the 2017/18 season on loan at Championship side Cardiff, who are thought to be considering another temporary move for the 22-year-old after a string of impressive performances.

Lazio, though, have also expressed concrete interest and are eager to make any deal permanent.

And Milinkovic-Savic, who has himself been linked with a big-money departure, appears to be aiding their efforts by talking the possible move over with Grujic in Serbia’s World Cup camp.

“I told him that if he goes to Rome, he will be fine,” he said. “I’ll leave the shirt and the locker directly to him? Hey, I didn’t say I’m leaving Lazio.”

“Obviously, I told him all the great things about Lazio, and that if he came here he will surely do well. Now it’s up to him to decide.”

Grujic, the second signing made by Jurgen Klopp, has been handed relatively few opportunities to impress since 2016 move to Anfield.

His prospects of regular first-team football next season look bleak following the addition of Naby Keita and Fabinho to the midfield roster.

Liverpool’s preference may be to sanction another loan move rather than abandoning what was, from the outset, a long-term development project.

Grujic was instrumental in Cardiff’s promotion to the Premier League, and a return to Neil Warnock’s side could allow him to showcase his abilities at a representative level.
