Italian Reports Claim Liverpool Closing on €70M Alisson Deal

It’s not a done deal yet, but an awful lot of people in Italy think it’s going to be.
Liverpool need a new goalkeeper, at the very least to replace the likely to depart Simon Mignolet and perhaps to take over from Loris Karius as the number one. And the club aren’t interested in Barcelona’s Jasper Cillissen. These are the two things we know for certain.
Beyond that it’s still best guesses and hopes, and if anyone on the Liverpool end knows for sure what’s going on behind the scenes, they aren’t telling. When it comes to Roma shot stopper Alisson and the Italian end, though, a whole lot of people are talking today.
On that end, the story has a deal if not nearly done then at least not far off, with Real Madrid having decided on Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Alisson having decided he prefers the idea of Liverpool and Champions League football over Chelsea, and a €70M bid on offer.
Rome’s Il Messaggero believe Liverpool have upped their offer and are now willing to meet Roma’s demands, occasionally reliable websites are reporting that Italian television is saying the same thing, and journalists with ties to AS Roma are talking up the possibility of a deal.
Meanwhile we have Liverpool fans reading tea leaves, noticing Alisson’s agent favourited a mock-up of Alisson in Liverpool kit and Paul Joyce, aka the most reliable name in Liverpool transfers, following the reporter who recently said the Reds were back in for Alisson.
And while fans eager to read too much into interactions on social media might be easy to wave away in mild amusement, the reality is that a whole lot of people with ties to AS Roma believe there’s a deal in the works. That, if not quite done, one at least isn’t far off.
