Italian sources claim Reds are back in Alisson race

Roma’s highly-rated goalkeeper Alisson Becker will end the transfer window at either Chelsea or Liverpool after the Reds reignited their interest, according to a number of Italian sources.

While Jurgen Klopp is prepared to allow to the much-maligned Loris Karius to do battle with Danny Ward for the no.1 spot, it is understood that he remains keen to recruit a new ‘keeper if possible.

The Reds

If Il Tempo are to be believed on Monday, ‘barring a clamorous U-turn’ Alisson will not be an AS Roma player next season.

Where he goes has yet to be decided, but the Italian newspaper firmly believe the chances of him being in between the Roman goalposts when the 2018-19 season kicks off are close to non-existent, with both Liverpool and Chelsea interested, ahead of Real Madrid.

On Sunday, we relayed an article from Gazzetta dello Sport stating the Brazilian shot stopper was somewhat torn between the two English destination, preferring London over Liverpool, but aware the Reds could give him the Champions League football he wants to play in.

On Monday, Il Tempo believe Jürgen Klopp’s side have the advantage, ahead of Chelsea with their negotiations, but the Blues are ‘in ambush’ and preparing their response.

La Repubblica:

Liverpool and Alisson rumors have gathered pace after Brazil got eliminated from the World Cup and reports in Italy indicate that the Reds have moved in with an offer. According to La Repubblica, the Merseysiders offered a fee worth €70m (€60m cash + €10m in bonuses), however, Roma rejected the move and instead want €65m cash + €10m in bonuses for their shot stopper. This means that Liverpool could get the signing done by offering just €5m more to the Italian club.”

Il Messaggero believe the same, although maintain that Liverpool’s offer of €65m (€60m + €5m in bonuses) hasn’t convinced Monchi, who knows the only way he’ll get the €75m he’s asking for is if Maurizio Sarri’s new side come wading in waving their chequebook in the air.

They say patience is a virtue, and it seems the Spaniard is prepared to sit and wait for desperation to kick in over in England, knowing full well the transfer countdown for Premier League clubs is far shorter than his.

The ECHO reported earlier this summer that no bid had been made for Alisson and the goalkeeper would favour a move to Real Madrid if he was to leave Roma in the transfer window, too.

Liverpool took the step of informing the player’s representatives earlier this year that no bid would be forthcoming this summer. The Reds are also unsure how easy negotiations would be with Roma after they landed 44-goal Mohamed Salah last year for a relatively low £36.9million.
