Liverpool Have No Interest in Barcelona’s Jasper Cillisen

Despite reports in Spain claiming a deal is in the works, sources with ties to the club insist there is no interest.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for a new starting goalkeeper since at least January when it was widely reported by sources with ties to the club that Roma stopper Alisson was Jürgen Klopp’s top target should Liverpool decide to move for a new number one.
Since then, incumbent Loris Karius went from winning the starting job long-term to maybe losing it at least twice, and as things stand the belief is that the club do want to bring in a new stopper, though whether as a replacement or competition remains up in the air.
One goalkeeper who isn’t being considered, at least according to journalists with ties to the club, is Barcelona’s Jasper Cillissen, and despite widespread rumours out of Spain that a deal is in the works the insistence on the Liverpool end that there is zero interest in him.
This certainty seems to differ from the case of Alisson, where about all that seems certain is that if anybody on the Liverpool end knows for sure, they aren’t talking. Here, the club are sending a clear signal: not only is a deal not in the works, Cillissen isn’t a target.
This isn’t a new stance for the club, either. They delivered the categorical denial message via briefed journalists two weeks ago, which was the last time the Spanish press began to talk about Cillissen to Liverpool being something of a nearly done deal.
Cillissen joined Barcelona two summers ago from Ajax in a €15M deal and has to no one’s surprise bar perhaps his own ended up stuck on the bench behind Marc Andre ter Stegen. Barcelona are said to be seeking €30M this summer as he looks to move on.
Whether he ends up stuck on Barcelona’s bench again next season or does find a new home is far from certain. What does seem safe to say is that his new home won’t be with Liverpool.
