Liverpool Make Record £62M Bid for Roma Goalkeeper Alisson

Mere hours after widespread reports out of Italy claimed Liverpool were making a push to sign Roma and Brazil number one Alisson for what would be a new record fee for a goalkeeper, confirmation is coming in from the Liverpool end that this is in fact the case.

Club-connected journalists including The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe, Goal.com’s Neil Jones, and The Echo’s James Pearce say Liverpool are pushing to sign Jürgen Klopp’s top goalkeeping target, with a bid of around £62M already delivered to AS Roma.

The Guardian’s Serie A specialist Fabrizio Romano is also saying that a £62M bid has been made and that at this stage Liverpool are the only realistic destination for the highly-rated 25-year-old after Real Madrid turned their attentions fully to Thibaut Courtois.

The Chelsea goalkeeper has just a year to run on his current contract and has shown no signs of being willing to agree a new Chelsea deal, and Madrid believe a deal can be done for a fee below market value because of that and have made him their top target.

Chelsea, meanwhile, wanted Alisson as Courtois’ replacement but the player, who has held discussions with Liverpool manager Klopp, is believed to favour the Reds and the promise of Champions League football and Chelsea are now resigned to missing out on him.
