Liverpool prepared to hold onto Origi

Liverpool will hold onto out-of-favour striker Divock Origi if suitors fail to meet their lofty £27million price tag, according to Goal‘s Neil Jones.

The Belgian is up for sale after an unimpressive start to pre-season which has seen him go five games without a goal.

He was under pressure to prove his worth to Jurgen Klopp following his disappointing loan spell at Wolfsburg, but the manager has instead opted to give Daniel Sturridge a final chance.

However, Origi’s departure is far from a certainty as it stands, with Liverpool set to rigidly stick to their valuation even as they look to trim their squad.

Valencia are understood to be leading the chase for the 23-year-old, but it is as yet unclear whether they can afford to shell out the significant sum demanded.

They may be forced to seek a loan move with a later option to buy.

The Reds are looking to generate around £70million from a comprehensive exodus. Another striker, Danny Ings, will be allowed to leave for £20million as he searches for regular starts.
