City, who conquered English football last season, were crowned champions of England last season as they finished 20 points ahead of the Reds.

Speaking before the fixture in the MetLife Stadium tomorrow, Guardiola has said the Reds will always challenge for the Premier League title given their history in English football.

“Liverpool is always a contender to win the title. With the history they have, they are always a contender,” he said.

“We’re going to play against one of the best teams in Europe – Champions League finalists.

“It will be good practice to see how the players react in an important game.”

The Manchester City boss is also keen to see how his young players react when they come up against the very best that Jurgen Klopp has to offer in New Jersey tomorrow evening.

“It’s nice for the young players that we have. We’re happy (to be playing in the ICC). Last season, we came here on an American tour and it was perfect in LA and the other places. It’s a fantastic place to come.

“The young players will play against Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, James Milner… It will be a good experience for them to see what you have to do to achieve a high level.”
