Liverpool Have No Plans to Bring in a New Center-Back
Klopp believes in his current group of defenders.
As the transfer window hits the final stages, rumours continue to filter out about the transfer committee’s ultimate plan. While there have been names of center-backs floating around in the Liverpool fan ether, the Liverpool ECHO and other outlets are reporting that Klopp is satisfied with his options in the center-back department.
The current crop of options include record-breaking signing Virgil van Dijk, World Cup-runner-up Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Ragnar Klavan, and Joe Gomez all duking it out for spots. The main concern in that area would be the incessant injuries, especially to Gomez and Matip, who is currently on the injured list for the next few weeks.
No one doubts Van Dijk’s talent, and Lovren seems to have shored up the other side after shining in the second half of the season. It’s beyond those two that things begin to get dicey with the injury issues. Without one more addition, there’s the same fear of an end-of-the-season injury crisis, similar to what has occurred in the last two seasons.
Everything remains in flux. Since Liverpool managed to snag their goalkeeper, we’re only expecting one or two more signings to come in before Deadline Day. The biggest buzz is around another attacking midfielder after Nabil Fekir fell through, but rumours had been swirling around the idea of another solid center-back option. While Klopp and the team may just be keeping things quiet, it does seem like the defense may be set for the time being.
