Liverpool struggling to offload Mignolet

Liverpool may be forced to sell Simon Mignolet for considerably less than the £12million they initially demanded, according to the Echo.

As things stand, Mignolet would be third-choice goalkeeper behind Loris Karius and new signing Alisson and so the club feel is there little point keeping the 30-year-old on the books.

The player has expressed his frustration at his lack of minutes since the turn of the year and looks to be seeking regular football elsewhere, with the club keen to facilitate that move as Klopp continues to trim his oversized squad.

Barcelona are thought to have identified Mignolet as a potential deputy if the incumbent no.2 Jasper Cillessen leaves, while Besiktas are also interested.

However, neither club have deemed Liverpool’s asking price suitable, which may force the Reds into a cut-price deal.

The intention is to sell Mignolet, but a loan move ahead of a permanent departure next summer might also be a possibility.

The Belgian’s future may become clearer next week after he makes his delayed return to Melwood.

While Liverpool will be unable to add any more players to their squad after August 9 when the English transfer windows shuts, they have until the end of the month to sell those who are out-of-favour to European clubs.
