Liverpool to Hold Firm on Danny Ings Transfer Fee
Liverpool will green light a move for Danny Ings but the club are holding firm on a valuation exceeding £20M.
It always seemed like a long shot for Danny Ings at Liverpool. The ex-Burnley striker injured his knee during Jürgen Klopp’s very first training session at Melwood and the stage was cruelly set for a frustrating Anfield career. Klopp seems to be a fan of the Englishman but opportunities have been scarce for Ings since returning to the squad. Now, with a fit player looking for minutes to reestablish himself in the league, this looks to be the summer when Liverpool finally lose one of their Dannys.
Reports earlier in the week had Ings nearly completing a move to Crystal Palace. That transfer is still thought to be on the table but other suitors for the hard-working striker have also made themselves known. Southampton, Leicester City and Newcastle United are all interested in what Danny Ings might do for their points tally this season.
Liverpool are assured that they can demand a fee over £20million for Ings based on recent deals for similar players. Aleksandar Mitrovic went to Fulham for £22million with add-ons. West Brom are insistent that Jay Rodriguez is worth £20million. Ings is still just 26-years-old and, with plenty of injury caveats, he has the potential to elevate a mid-level club up the Premier League table.
The manager would prefer to keep Ings in the squad for the coming season but Klopp understands that his oft-overlooked striker wants to play and that means moving on.
Unfortunately, Ings picked up an new injury during pre-season and has missed most of the training and matches so far. But he has now linked up with Liverpool in Evian, France and Klopp as usual expressed favorable views.
“Danny, very positive now, very unlucky before,” Klopp said.
”I know a lot of people probably thought ‘oh my God again’ (when he got injured), but it wasn’t again, it was something completely new.
“He was long term fit last season, he played games and then came back for pre-season. He’s done all the physical stuff so he’s fit but we’re careful with that and won’t rush things.
”We will see what happens on Saturday. We have to integrate three or four offensive players for that game so maybe it’s not Danny’s game. But he’s in training again and all is good.”
