Andy Robertson: Liverpool Try to Win “Whatever Competition We Are in”

The left back says spirits are good but all are focused on the tasks in hand.

Everything is clicking right now at Liverpool, and Andrew Robertson is right there as a key part of it. And his attitude off the pitch seems to be just as good as his performances on it.

In a pleasing tone, Robertson made it clear that everyone at the club is feeling good at the moment, but that in no way means there is any less focus on winning the games in front of us.

“There may be noise outside the club and I know the fans are optimistic”, The Mirror report Robertson as saying, “but the players and staff are keeping their feet on the ground.

“You don’t win anything in August or September. You win trophies in April or May - and we have done nothing yet except win a couple of games. It is all irrelevant if we don’t keep going. We have some momentum behind us, but we can’t afford to let that drop.

“You go out to win every game. Winning breeds confidence throughout the place and hopefully we can continue that. We believe we can win every game because we can cause teams problems. But when we are not at 100%, we struggle.

“I’ve not been in a team this confident since the under-fives! All the lads have that confidence but it is about showing that confidence in the right way.

“Whatever competition we are in we try to win it. We have got to compete the best we can, whether that is the Champions League, the league, the League Cup or FA Cup”.

After taking until around Christmas to cement his place in the starting eleven last year, it feels as though Robertson is a much more integrated part of the side this season. There’s a clear understanding between himself at left back and Virgil van Dijk at left centre back, as is the cast between Robertson and Sadio Mané on the left flank. Just as there are these strong rhythms on the pitch, the same seems to be true off it, with Robertson echoing what always seems to be a positive mood around Melwood. Keep it up, everyone.
