The Manchester United legend has tipped the Reds as the team to beat

Liverpool might have tasted defeat for the first time this season after exiting the League Cup via a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, however it’s only blip to what has shaped up to be an exciting start to the Reds’ campaign. Seven straight wins in all competitions before Tuesday’s loss have seen Jürgen Klopp’s side throw down an early challenge to their Premier League rivals, while instilling the fear of Fowler in the most-moneyed sides of Europe.

There were even positives to take from the League Cup defeat, as Reds supporters will be heartened by the strength of a Reds’ second-string XI chock-full of players who had started and secured recent top four finishes.

From a revitalized Daniel Sturridge, who has now scored in three different competitions to open the season, and the livewire Xherdan Shaqiri, to new boys Naby Keita and Fabinho in midfield, and all the way back to the solid Nathanial Clyne and Joël Matip, opponents across the continent will surely recognize this as the strongest and deepest Liverpool side in recent memory.

So much so that even a Manchester United legend in Ryan Giggs has hailed the Reds as the team to beat in England:

”From 1-11 there’s probably not been a better Liverpool team in the Premier League,” Giggs admitted, speaking to Skyp Sports.

”When Raheem Sterling, Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were on fire [in the 2013/14 season] they were really impressive but probably overall it looks like a more balanced team now.

”You’ve got players who’ve been in the team a couple of years and you’ve got young players coming through with experience of Jordan Henderson and James Milner so it’s a good blend in there.

”Liverpool haven’t played well in some games but scraped results, which is actually quite scary because if you’re able to do that, that’s championship form, so not only the swashbuckling three or four goals, but digging out results is what you need to do to win it.

”It looks like a case of Manchester City v Liverpool for the title, although you can’t dismiss Chelsea because they’re playing well.

”Remember just two years ago they were the champions and they’ve got players in that dressing room who know what it takes - Liverpool haven’t got that, but you’ve got to start somewhere and Liverpool have been impressive.”

Although City have barely lost step in the bid to again reach the 100 point mark in the league, while Chelsea, in the midst of their customary new manager bump, play some exciting ‘Sarri-ball’, Liverpool fans will be confident that a balanced but still-potent Reds have what it takes to take the next step forward in what is set to be a memorable campaign.
