Alisson shortlisted for 2018 Ballon d’Or
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been shortlisted for this year’s Ballon d’Or, according to LiverpoolFC.com.
Thirty candidates for the prestigious annual prize will be revealed over the course of today, with Alisson among the first five nominees unveiled.
The award is presented by France Football and has been running every year since 1956. In that time, only one goalkeeper has ever won the award – Lev Yashin in 1963.

Alisson has started well in his Liverpool career after arriving from AS Roma in the summer for a brief world-record fee, keeping five clean sheets in ten appearances. He represented Brazil at the World Cup, and helped his old club Roma reach the Champions League semi-finals, where they were ironically knocked out by Liverpool.
The goalkeeper has grown in stature since his uncharacteristic mistake against Leicester, putting in impressive performances against Chelsea, Napoli and Manchester City in recent weeks.
Other nominees revealed so far include Sergio Aguero (Argentina/Manchester City), Gareth Bale (Wales/Real Madrid), Karim Benzema (France/Real Madrid), and Edinson Cavani (Uruguay/Paris Saint-Germain).
