Arsenal Reportedly Expecting Liverpool Move for £25M-Rated Ramsey

Reports out of London have Arsenal waiting on a January approach and setting a high price for Aaron Ramsey.

Liverpool have been linked with Arsenal’s 27-year-old Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey for some time now, and with his contract expiring at the end of the current season there has been plenty of speculation they will seek to sign him on a free next summer.

Now, though, there are reports from journalists with ties to Arsenal that they are prepared for Liverpool, as well as possibly Manchester United, to move for Ramsey in January, with Liverpool in particular said to be keen on bolstering their midfield mid-season.

At least according to the Evening Standard’s James Olley, the price being floated is £25M. On the surface at least it seems a quite excessive price for a player who, in January, will have six months left on his contract and who is certain to depart in the summer.

Ramsey’s future, at least in that it won’t be at Arsenal, has seemed likely since before the season started. It became all but certain a month ago when the player refused to continue negotiations and the club withdrew the contract that they had offered.

Still, early suggestions Liverpool could pay £35M for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain seemed similarly excessive given he had a year on his deal when Arsenal sold him, and in that context £25M might not be an entirely unreasonable opening ask for the Gunners.

And in the meantime. Ramsey remains key to Arsenal’s top four hopes, with the midfielder having played in all eight league games so far for Unai Emery and recording a goal and three assists already in the 2018-19 season.
