Buffon chooses Anfield as the stadium with the greatest atmosphere

Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon counts Anfield among the best stadiums in which he’s ever played.

The Paris Saint-Germain keeper, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, has claimed that Liverpool’s home ground has the best atmosphere he has ever experienced, with Ibrox a close runner-up.

Anfield has become famous for its electric atmosphere over the years, especially on European nights, and Buffon was quick to highlight it as particularly memorable for him.

“Definitely Anfield, in Liverpool ,” Buffon told Football Italia.

“That was one of the few stadiums – along with Rangers in Glasgow and Fenerbahce in Istanbul – where there was such commotion for the first 15-20 minutes that I had trouble concentrating.”

The Italian also selected the scene of his World Cup final glory as the best game he’s ever played in.

“The best game?,” Buffon said. “Every final is pure emotion, but if I have to say one I’d say the World Cup final, even if that’s slightly predictable.”
