Jordan Henderson on PSG Defeat: “It Wasn’t our Night in the End”

Better pull something special out of the bag next time, lads.

A bitter pill to swallow tonight. Liverpool had their moments but were simply outplayed at the Parc des Princes to a star studded Paris Saint-Germain team. We now find ourselves on the back foot, likely needing to beat Napoli by at least two goals at Anfield, though things can get complicated.

As for the players themselves, it seems like they felt things not going so well, as Jordan Henderson alluded to in his comments.

“We are disappointed because we think we are good enough to come here and win”, the Liverpool captain told BT Sport, as reported by BBC Sport. “ It wasn’t our night in the end but we had the boost at half time and we kept going. Now we have just got to keep it in our own hands by winning back at Anfield”.

On the penalty incident at the end of the first half that got Liverpool back into the game, Henderson stated that “It looked clear to me. I wasn’t sure the referee would have given it but the linesman did in the end. We didn’t start particularly well, and they did, so we got punished. The reaction was good and we caused them problems right until the end, but it wasn’t meant to be.

As for the other big refereeing moment, Marco Verratti’s booking that perhaps could have been a red, Henderson claimed that “it looked quite high but I’m not really sure. In the moment it is fast and that is football. I’m sure we made a few as well.

“We now have another big game at Anfield and we can get through that and into the next round”.

It’s easy to feel dejected right now, but we like your optimism, Jordan. Liverpool have a history of delivering big performances on important European nights at Anfield. We’ll need one.
