Mohamed Salah Ranks His Team Above His Personal Awards

The Liverpool goalscorer is always looking for more goals but his true motivation on the pitch comes from the team.

With the award for Liverpool’s fastest player to fifty goals firmly secured, Mohamed Salah only thinks of improving on his good work for the club. The Egyptian striker scored 44 times during his first season at Liverpool and after only sixty-five appearances for the club Salah achieved his feat with a converted penalty against Red Star Belgrade.

“I’m glad about that. I’m always very happy and proud to break records, especially records at a club like Liverpool,” Salah said.

“Being the fastest player to score 50 goals for the club is something great. But I need to carry on and score more goals – I’m looking forward to 100!”

Salah has been targeted more by opposing defenses this season and the player’s effectiveness has come into question on occasion. But Salah has been as ready and willing as ever to work for the team regardless of his potency on the pitch or level of form.

Jürgen Klopp not only stresses team unity but has been actively recruiting players and leaders who share that ethos. Scoring fifty goals for Liverpool is undoubtably a thrilling thing to have done. Mohamed Salah is and should be ecstatic to have done it. But the King of Egypt puts his team before personal accolades.

“What I have achieved with Liverpool is something great, when I look back,” said Salah.

“When I came here at the beginning, I had a dream and things in my mind I wanted to achieve. We were very close to one of them but we lost in the final. But I think we are on the way and I am happy about what we are doing.

“To motivate myself, the team comes first – we need to win titles and we need to achieve something together. That’s something that always motivates me.

“Last season we were very close but in the end we didn’t win anything. That’s something that motivates me much more than individual awards. I want to win something for the club because I love the club. I want to win something here.”
