Rafa Benitez has identified a problem Newcastle face with trip to Liverpool

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that his side do face the challenge of having to travel to Merseyside by coach as the airport in Liverpool is closed.

The Reds welcome the Magpies to Anfield on Boxing Day looking to maintain the four-point gap at the top of the table.

It is a slightly different scenario for Benitez’s side who find themselves 15th in the league, and the trip to Anfield certainly will not be an easy one, especially considering the team have to take an unusual route to Liverpool.

“We don’t really have any time off because we have so many games. We have to train early this week, then we have to travel by coach on Christmas Day because the airport is closed in Liverpool,” the former Reds manager told Chronicle Live.

“So we have to travel the day before the game after lunch, but that’s it, and the rest of the time we have to train, recover, and be ready.”
