Undefeated Liverpool “Have to Do Even Better”

Jürgen Klopp never gave much thought to being undefeated at Christmas. Now that they are his only concern is the next game.

Even if Jürgen Klopp sets out to win any and every game his side plays, the Liverpool manager says he never gave any thought to being top of the table heading into Christmas on the back of an undefeated record.

“I don’t have a lot of expectations,” Klopp noted. “I expect that we always do as much as possible to win our games. I knew about the potential of my team, but I didn’t know how it would all work together.

“Being unbeaten in December is not something I have had too often, but you don’t think about December when you start. Did I expect it? Not really. Did I think about any defeat when I started in June? Not one.”

Just how long Klopp’s Liverpool can keep up their unbeaten run—and if, just maybe, they can even end the season without a league defeat—will only increase with each passing week if they continue to get results.

But just as he didn’t start the season thinking about the possibility of being undefeated 18 games in, Klopp isn’t going to start worrying about that now. Right now, just as every week, the focus is only on the next game.

“We did really well so far and we will have to do even better from now on,” he added. “You can see all the other teams are doing really well. That’s the challenge for us, to be focused and as successful as possible.

“In this moment things look quite positive, but only in this moment. We have to make sure it stays like this.”
