Rumor Mongering: Liverpool Linked With Leeds United Starlet

Apparently the Reds are monitoring 18-year-old striker Jack Clarke

It’s December. Despite being the busiest of busy seasons for football (particularly in England), that January transfer window is looming large on the horizon. Liverpool connected journalists have gone on record that the club is not interested in midseason signings, but that doesn’t stop the rumor mill from spinning. Nothing stops the rumor mill from spinning.

On tap today is a link to an 18-year-old Leeds United striker, Jack Clarke. According to Football Insider, Liverpool are interested in signing the up and coming player, who signed his first professional contract with Leeds on his 17th birthday.

If true, which it probably isn’t, this would certainly be “one for the future.” Clarke has only made 6 substitute appearances in the Championship so far this campaign for Leeds, totalling a mere 153 minutes in the process, and contributing a solitary assist. Of course the other “usual suspects,” including Manchester City and Chelsea, are said to also be monitoring the young player’s progress.

If nothing else, Clarke could be someone to listen to James Milner blab on and on about the greatness of Leeds United. It must get exhausting for the rest of the lads.

At the moment Leeds are sitting comfortably in second, and are in line for an automatic promotion to the Premier League. As such, Clarke’s best option for becoming a Premier League player might be to sit tight and continue developing.

Anyway, it’s an interesting rumor, and random enough to merit a very slight degree of credibility. Or it could just be made up from whole cloth.
