Van Dijk on “fantastic” Alisson and Napoli victory
Virgil van Dijk thinks Alisson has been “fantastic” for Liverpool after the goalkeeper pulled off a crucial save right at the death in last night’s clash with Napoli.
Arkadiusz Milik looked certain to equalize in stoppage time and eliminate Liverpool from the Champions League after Fabinho inadvertently flicked a cross straight to his feet.
However, Liverpool’s Brazilian stopped was on hand to block the shot and keep the score at 1-0 until the final whistle secured the Reds’ passage to the knockout stages of the competition.

“He’s been fantastic for Liverpool and for us,” van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com.
“[He’s a] great character, a great guy and he helps us all. He gives confidence to everyone. That’s how it is and how it should be as well, for the whole team.”
On the match as a whole, the centre-back admitted: “We should’ve made it a bit easier I think, but the job is done and we’re through to the knockout stages.
“We could’ve made it a bit easier if we’d scored two more, but in the end, especially for us at the back and in the midfield [it’s about] keeping it tight, win your headers, and we did it.
“In the end, [we’re] very pleased. That Ali needs to make the fantastic save is something that wasn’t really necessary if we’d scored all the goals – including myself. But like I said, we’re through.”
Liverpool will discover on Monday night who they’ll face in the last 16, but the Dutchman believes any side still in the tournament will be hoping they’re not drawn with Liverpool.
“I don’t think so,” said van Dijk. “That’s what we showed last season and this season as well. We’ll see what’s going to happen.”
