Alisson Becker Expecting Another Special European Night at Anfield
Liverpool’s number one is quite happy to be on the other side of the support this go around.
So far this season, Alisson Becker has let in 15 goals in 26 league games. He let in 7 in 2 matches against Liverpool in the Champions League semifinal, and 5 of those at Anfield. This is all to say that European Nights at Anfield are special, and enough to lift an already extremely talented group of Reds. Or, conversely, that Anfield is enough to rattle even the most level-headed and talented opposition players.
“It’s difficult to play against Liverpool. The quality of the team is amazing. And then the 12th player, outside the pitch, that is the supporters,” Alisson told the club’s official website.
“Last year, I can remember about the semi-finals that they played against us, it was difficult. It was an unbelievable atmosphere. It was incredible.
“I like to play with supporters of the other team shouting, talking to me, [it gives me incentive]. But here was something different.”
Something like 5 goals different. He’ll no doubt be glad to be on the other side of the equation when Champions League hostilities renew on Tuesday night.
“When I signed, when I wanted to come here and I knew about the interest of Liverpool, yes, for sure [that experience was a factor].”
Of course, no interview would be complete without addressing the elephant in the room: possibly ending Liverpool’s long title drought.
“I think we can do something special here” Alisson continued. “But we need to put the feet on the ground and keep working, working, working.”
Hopefully Klopp does all the work necessary to kick on this week in Marbella, because Liverpool have two huge games on the immediate horizon, the results of which could greatly impact the chances of “doing something special” this season.
