Liverpool Loanee Could Be Returned to Anfield

A registration issue could be the end of Pedro Chirivella’s chance to prove himself at Extremadura.

There was a time when Jordan Rossiter and Pedro Chirivella were the future in midfield for Liverpool. A pair of highly touted youngsters some thought were locks to anchor the side for a decade or more, a Scouse future captain and a Spanish regista.

As if to prove just how difficult it is to predict player development, Rossiter now play’s for League Two’s Bury. And Chirivella isn’t playing for Extremadura in Spain’s Segunda after the RFEF challenged the legitimacy of his registration following a January loan there.

According to The Evening Standard’s David Lynch, Liverpool are confident they followed protocol in sending the player to Spain last month, but if Extremadura made an error in his registration paperworrk it’s possible Chirivella could end up back at Anfield.

Extremadura will now have to decide if they appeal to the Spanish federation, potentially allowing Chirivella to play for the struggling, relegation-threatened side who currently stand just two point clear of a drop that would send them to the third division.

Hopefully, for Chirivella’s sake, he gets to play in the coming months and to perhaps earn himself a chance at a more permanent football home, whether at Extremadura if they manage to stay up or somewhere else in Spain’s lower leagues.
