Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk on Spurs Win: We Wanted it More
Great day for Liverpool
We left it late, but in the end it was a huge win for Liverpool against Spurs at Anfield.
In what was a close encounter, Mo Salah capitalised on Hugo Lloris’ error to win a very nervy game. Liverpool are now two points clear at the top of the table, though City have a game in hand. Trent Alexander-Arnold was delighted.
“We knew what kind of game it was going to be”, BBC Sport report Alexander-Arnold as saying, “coming up against a top team like Tottenham.
”Both teams wanted to win but I think we wanted it more than them.
”Virgil [van Dijk] has shown again why he is the best defender in the world. You need fortune to win these types of games.”
A similar tone was struck by Van Dijk, who added that “Tottenham are a very good side with great players who like to have the ball.
”We tried to put them under pressure which we did in the first half but in the second half they changed it up a bit. It was a bit difficult for us but in the end we got the three points and that’s all that matters.
“When these moments come we never give up. We are going to try and win every game. It’s going to be tough but let’s enjoy it and keep going.”
In an ideal world, you’d want to see a better performance than this, but in another sense, nothing feels better than a late scrappy winner in a big game. We saw it with Origi’s goal against Everton in December and we saw it today. Whether this will be enough to win the league remains to be seen, but Liverpool are in the hunt, they’re pushing hard, and we can bet that it’ll go all the way down to the wire.
