Former Liverpool player’s comments infuriate Manchester United fans
Michael Owen has aggravated Manchester United fans with his comments and reaction to Marcus Rashford’s late penalty win against Paris Saint-Germain last night.
A handball decision was made after the referee consulted VAR officials and Rashford scored to send PSG out of the competition after they had dominated the match in Paris.
Footage of the studio as the goal went in captured Rio Ferdinand, Gary Lineker and Owen Hargreaves celebrating wildly while Owen remained in his seat with his arms folded.

And the former Manchester United and Liverpool striker only stoked the fire further with his comments after the game.
“With a neutral head on it’s not a penalty in a million years,” said Owen. “The arm isn’t in an unnatural position. It’s not a penalty for me.
“What we’re finding now is virtually every ex-footballer thinks it’s not (a penalty) but every referee seems to think it is. There’s just a huge disconnect in how we’re viewing the game and that’s the worrying thing.”
It’s not the first time Owen has angered fans, either. During the halftime interval in the goalless draw between United and Liverpool last month, Owen appeared to condone Liverpool players targeting the injured Rashford:
“I tell you what, if I was Jurgen Klopp in that dressing room at half time with Manchester United not being able to bring on another substitute, I’d be saying: ‘Right, first person, first opportunity, go and kick Rashford on the ankle that he has been limping on for the first half.”
Following heavy criticism from fans, Owen later said: “Nobody was advocating giving Marcus Rashford a serious injury but with 3 subs already used if his ankle was so uncomfortable he couldn’t continue then of course that would be discussed in every changing room in the land.”
