Robbie Fowler Reportedly Close To Managerial Role In Australia

Retirement is hard.

Well this one is a bit out of the blue. According to reports out of Australia, Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler is preparing to take charge of the A-League outfit Brisbane Roar FC. The Roar might be in their offseason, but it’s really impossible to know for certain.

“Robbie Fowler – the man otherwise known as ‘God’ – is firming as the favourite to take over as Brisbane Roar’s new coach,” The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting.

“The former Liverpool great, who also played for North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory in his twilight years, was one of the first names linked with the gig after John Aloisi stepped down in December.

”Now 43, Fowler is understood to have seriously impressed Roar powerbrokers throughout the interview process with his forensic knowledge of the team, the competition and his plans for the club.”

Since winning the A-League three times in four years in 2010/11, 2011/12, and 2013/14, the Roar have stagnated, finishing 6th last campaign (out of how many teams? It is literally impossible to know).

Fowler, if nothing else, is a big name in football, and that alone could help recruitment within the league. Whether he’d actually make a good manager or not is anyone’s guess, but it’ll be interesting to watch from afar if it comes to fruition.

We will miss him taking penalties away from Steven Gerrard in charity matches, though.
