Liverpool centre-back in race to be fit for Burnley clash

Dejan Lovren’s chances of being available for Liverpool’s match against Burnley at Anfield on Sunday have been dealt a blow according to the Echo.

The centre-back was expected to be available for selection following a two-month spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury sustained in the FA Cup against Wolves on January 7.

He was, however, nowhere to be seen during Liverpool’s training session yesterday as hopes for his return dwindle.

Joel Matip has partnered Virgil van Dijk in recent games and performed admirably, but Jurgen Klopp is still sorely missing Joe Gomez, who had forged an excellent understanding with van Dijk before his injury.

Klopp also revealed that James Milner is suffering from a minor hamstring issue and was forced to miss the training session as well, as did Alberto Moreno.
