Rumour Mongering: Bayern Munich Target Marko Grujic
True or not, even being linked is one heck of a vote of confidence.
Marko Grujic has been something of the forgotten man since arriving at Anfield as Jürgen Klopp’s first signing back in January of 2016, but his form this season for Hertha Berlin has certainly been getting him some attention.
His manager at Hertha has called him the best midfielder the club has seen in 20 years, and when fit they’ve been on form to qualify for the Champions League—while when he’s been out injured they’ve been on relegation form.
Now, there are even some very tenuous rumours suggesting Bayern Munich have been impressed enough by what they’ve seen of the 22-year-old at Hertha that they’re sniffing around the player as a potential transfer target.
That the rumours come via The Mirror and with little solid sourcing on the German end is certainly reason for doubt, but whether or not there’s any truth to them it seems like one heck of a vote of confidence in Grujic’s form.
And while Liverpool’s coaches certainly won’t have forgotten about him, it should serve as a reminder to any fans who think the club will—or maybe even must—strengthen in midfield this summer that Grujic is still out there.
Still out there and, after struggling for fitness in the autumn, a nailed on starter—and the Bundesliga’s most recent rookie of the month—for a side that has pushed their way up to eighth in the table in large part thanks to him.
