Would a “Salah-N-Pepe” Forward Line “Push It” Real Good For Liverpool?

This transfer season, get ready for the “ooh baby baby” headlines. Maybe.

The league season’s end is just around the corner, and assuming most of Liverpool’s fanbase hasn’t succumbed to shredded nerves or climate change by that point, talk of the town will almost certainly be switching gears to transfer speculation. Unsurprisingly, the rumour/rumor machine is already warmed up and ready to start churning out absolute drivel.

Just recently, Lille forward Nicolas Pepe has been suggested as being a potential target for Liverpool’s interest this summer. With 19 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season for Lille OSC, the 23-year-old has been tipped to leave for greener pastures before the summer is over, with an “approach” from Liverpool anticipated.

Of course, suitors other than Jürgen Klopp are said to be in the mix, including Inter, Bayern Munich, and Arsenal, with sums “between £52million and £60m” being bandied about. Now, according to the Mirror, 4th-place-chasers Manchester United have been added to the throng of interested parties, a development which is meant to give more legitimacy to the claims of interest, but which somehow makes this transfer story sound even more spurious.

Given the farcical race for 4th place this season, and in light of Manchester United’s “stumbles” as of late, we should all expect to see some big money moves to the Premier League during the coming transfer window. Whether Nicolas Pepe is part of that cohort remains to be seen.

While his club appear “resigned” to losing Pepe’s services (for an exorbitant amount of money, probably), the player has apparently not quite made a decision about his near term future, and is unlikely to do so prior to the May 5 match between Lille and Lyon as the two clubs tussle for 2nd place behind PSG.
