Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner: “We’re Only Going to Get Stronger...”

The season may be over but the momentum continues.

This season, was different...

And while we may not be a Premier League trophy richer, this Liverpool side is definitely no one hit wonder. With a momentum that began last season and leveled up after our heartbreak in Kiev on 26 May 2018, this Liverpool team are only going to come back better than ever.

So, while it certainly is possible to buy the League, it is not a sustainable approach to a competition which gets tougher every season. Jürgen Klopp has thankfully never been a checkbook manager, and although we may all have questioned his decisions in the past, he has continued to be steadfast in his philosophy. He has shown that even when we doubt him, he does not falter from what he has set out to do with the club.

Liverpool’s points tally of 97 broke the record for runners-up in Europe’s top five leagues, beating Real Madrid’s 96 points which they reached at the end of the 2009-10 season. 97 points would have been enough to secure the Premier League title in all but one of the previous 26 seasons and no side has ever lost only one match the entire season and not gone on to win the title. If you have supported the Reds long enough you will know that we do not do things the easy way, ever. But we can be assured that we have a solid foundation, a consistently improving first 11 and a firm backing from owners who are completely behind our Jürgen.

The message from the club is clear – Liverpool will be back to challenge again and this ride is very far from over. Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner reiterated that fact after yesterday’s final match of the season where Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers by 2 goals to 0, saying:

It was a magical season. Obviously, we’re disappointed that we didn’t win the league but it was a remarkable season and the squad is exciting. I think that we’ve made a lot of friends around the world and I think we’ve done well by our supporters. I can’t say enough about Jürgen and all the talent on the field.
We’re only going to get stronger. Ninety-seven points, it’s a remarkable year. We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.

As an L.F.C supporter for the past 26 years, I can honestly say that I have never been prouder of this football club. The future certainly does look bright; and with a second Champions League Final in two seasons on the horizon, our trophy dreams may still have a happy ending this year.

So, we walk on... Next stop, Madrid.

Up the Mighty Reds!
