Alberto Moreno Says Good Bye To Fans
The fullback is on his way out this summer.
Fans knew that Alberto Moreno’s time on Merseyside was up after the club announced that they were allowing his contract to expire. The fullback was not the most consistent player on the pitch, but off of it, he brought an entertaining exuberance that endeared him to fans despite his oftentimes lacklustre performances.
With Andy Robertson seamlessly making that leftback position his own since arriving at the club two summers ago, Moreno found himself cut out of manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans. Now he’s off to parts unknown to continue his career and amuse another set of fans with his absurd fashion sense and charming personality.
Moreno posted a message of farewell and thanks to the fans on Monday, which officially signals his departure.
Hi Reds,
Life goes in cycles, and mine at my beloved Liverpool FC has drawn to an end. Upon reaching this point, I would like to thank the entire Liverpool family; my dear teammates, with whom I have shared five marvellous years and who I will forever think of as family, and, of course, the owners, directors, coaching staff, doctors, physios, kitmen, and each and every person at the club.
Thank you for making me a better footballer and, above all, a better person; for helping me to fulfil one of my childhood dreams by winning the Champions League and, in doing so, become a small part of the history of this great club.
My gratitude too to the city, which embraced me as one of its own from day one and which will live on in my memory whenever I look at my son, Alberto Jr, a Liverpudlian himself.
Finally, a very special thank you to the club’s superb fans, who always supported me. I wish you all at Liverpool FC the greatest successes. Wherever life takes me from here, I will always carry you in my heart and forever be a fan.
You’ll Never Walk Alone!
Alberto Moreno
It will be hard to look back on Moreno’s tenure with the club with anything other than fondness. He worked hard and was a loyal servant for the last five years. We wish him well wherever he ends up.
