Dejan Lovren set to remain at Liverpool

Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren could remain at the club beyond this summer due to the fact that AS Roma are only interested in signing the Croatian on loan.

According to a report from Football Insider, the former Southampton central defender is set to stay at Liverpool this season as they seem unlikely to match the terms of the Reds transfer demands.

Lovren is open to a summer move away from Anfield but AS Roma want to sign him on loan with the option to buy at the end of the season-long loan spell but Liverpool aren’t open happy with that.

Liverpool would only have three senior centre backs if they allowed Lovren to leave this summer, with Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk the only options available to Klopp in that scenario.

It seems unwise to let Lovren leave when you consider the fact that both Matip and Gomez have proven to be injury-prone with their backup 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg yet to make his debut for the Reds.

The shock news that Lovren is set to stay at Liverpool might actually be a blessing in disguise given the extra games that the Merseysiders will need to navigate this season.
