Klopp Confirms Alisson to Miss a “Few Weeks”

Liverpool’s manager confirmed that Alisson Becker will miss the immediate run of matches due to a calf injury.
No news is good news. In this case, since we’ve got news, this is most definitely bad news.
Today, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Alisson Becker will be out for “a few weeks” following a calf injury sustained in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Norwich City this past Friday. Becker went down late in the first half with a non-contact injury.
Luckily, at the time, Liverpool were well ahead and would go on to win 4-1. Becker’s injury, though, cast a bit of a pall on what was otherwise a rather bright day.
Almost immediately, fans began to speculate about the injury as, after all, we are fanatics. The arm chair prognosis being a calf or hamstring injury. Over the last 36 hours, though, we’ve gotten more firm reports with Becker most certainly having a calf injury.
The length of time away from the pitch, though, is a bit murkier. Which is a bit of a shame because that’s what most fans are likely anxious about. Klopp’s specific comment about the injury throws a bit of question to the earlier reports that Alisson would be out at least 6 weeks due to the injury. The gaffer’s full quotes from the official site are:
“I saw already like ‘six weeks’ and stuff like this, but Ali was not a lot injured in his career so I would like to wait a little bit to see how he develops in that process now, but he is not in for the next few weeks.”
It may be hopeful to lean towards Becker being available ahead of 6 weeks, but what I’m gleaning from these comments is that the extent of his injury has not quite yet been assessed by the medical team. Regardless, what we do know is that the Brazilian net-minder will be out of the team for the immediate run of matches. Here’s hoping Adrian is able to string together a few good performances in the mean time.
