Van Dijk Says Adrian Can Come in “Pretty Easy” for Alisson

The goalkeeper has big shoes to fill, but Virgil van Dijk doesn’t think it’ll be a problem.
Alisson picked up an injury and everyone’s hearts sank.
As it stands, it looks like he’s out for 4-8 weeks. A concern, certainly. But not the disaster many had worried about. He still should play the vast majority of Liverpool’s games this season.
New arrival Adrián steps into the spotlight. The Spaniard is a capable keeper for sure, even if he’s a step down from Alisson. But Virgil van Dijk does not expect him to be phased in the slightest.
“I think he’s at that kind of age, that stage of his life and career that he can come in and slot in to the team pretty easy”, Sky Sports report him as saying. “He’s been through so many things in the Premier League he can just slot in pretty easy.”
As for Alisson, Van Dijk adds that the Brazilian is “very important for us, but I’ve no idea what the actual damage is. We’ll see over the next days what the outcome is going to be.
”We have to deal with it and we’re going to deal with it.”
Personally I’m relatively upbeat on this. Let’s just say it’s the worst case scenario and Alisson is out for 8 weeks. That’s seven Premier League games he misses. There are tough fixtures at home to Arsenal and away to Chelsea, while the other five are all very winnable. I don’t think a lack of Alisson has such an effect on results that we are not the favourites going into all seven fixtures.
I’ve always felt that Adrián is a fairly underrated goalkeeper. Some of the numbers on his shot stopping are very impressive, and I would imagine that’s almost certainly something the club paid attention to in signing him. He’s pretty good, if not Alisson.
Relax. It’s going to be fine.
