Virgil Van Dijk Wants to Score More Goals

Does anyone doubt that he can do it?
Virgil van Dijk is already the best defender in the world, but this season he’s looking to expand his repertoire to goal scoring as well. The Dutch captain scored seven goals in all competitions last season, but van Dijk thinks he can do better this season.
“With my height and qualities with heading I should be a little bit more dangerous but it is not easy,” said Van Dijk.
“Most of the time I am always marked by the best defensive header of the ball from the other team, but it is something I am definitely challenging myself to improve and that can only be a good thing.”
Part of the way he hopes to accomplish this is to compete in all four competitions. Hey, four times the games means four times the chances to score, right? Last season, the club bombed out of the domestic cups very early on, denying their youngsters of playing opportunities.
“We want to compete in all competitions. It is something we aim for. We won the Champions League last year but if you look at the other competitions we played we did not do too great. We are going to give it a go and try to get as far as possible in all of the competitions and everybody starting each competition will be trying their hardest,” he declared.
While the Premier League and Champions League should be the team’s main focus, the best teams should have the ability to be competitive from all four fronts. Liverpool hasn’t won an FA Cup since 2006 or a League Cup since 2012. With luck, the Reds winning their first trophy under Klopp will make winning a habit that translates to more domestic cup trophies in their case.
