The Scottish International talks international break and the Newcastle win this weekend.

We’re only in September, but Liverpool are sitting on top of the league and are five points (five of them!) clear of last season’s Premier League winners, Manchester City. The fact that we’re now heading into defending our Champions League title is going to make protecting that lead just that much harder, and the players are well aware of this.

“August was relaxed in terms of what we’re used to but September is back to the busy schedule,” Andy Robertson told the club’s official website. “The Champions League starts on Tuesday and we’ll be on a flight on Monday.

“So it’s all about recovering, we need to recover properly and we need to be ready to go on Tuesday. September is a busy period – we need to come through it firing and get the results we need.”

The Reds will be headed to San Paolo Stadium on Monday and will hopefully keep this weekend’s win instead of their last trip to Naples in mind as they step out onto the field.

When asked about the win against Newcastle, Robertson said he believed the reaction to the Magpies’ early goal was crucial.

“Everyone reacted really well and luckily we got back on level terms because the longer the game goes, Steve Bruce’s game plan comes in; I’ve been a part of it and I know how good they are at it. Luckily we got on level terms quite quickly.”
